Reality surpasses fantasy!!
The coffee trade in Colombia needed a magical solution back in 1900, when bringing coffee from the high mountains to the ports was done by mule and ox.
That's when a Cableway of more than 72 km (44 miles) was built between Manizales and Mariquita. 1914-1926.
It was able to move 10 TONS of coffee per hour, making of Manizales the "Coffee Capital" of the world.
Today we only have a monument displaying the Herveo Tower in Manizales, the system was disassembled in 1967, since roads made transportation cheaper and more consistent.
Imagine a ride from Manizales to Mariquita, crossing next to snowed capped mountains, along valleys and creeks filled with lush vegetation, that will be a unique touristic attraction.
My Grandmother and my Mom rode the cable.
Some nights at the farm, we gather with Mom and share fond memories about this unique system, and wonder how lucky are we, having a part of our history so close to our daily lives and to our hearts.
